thanks Jeff, but unless i am not understanding your response, for the 10 original uploaded FLAC files only 8 MP3 files were derived. as indicated in the logs the MP3 derivationfor tracks 4 & 6 failed.

what's more, the 10 derived Ogg Vorbis have lots of garbage metadata (e.g. lyric lines from the lyric tag in the original FLAC file have become mulitple key/value pairs). also, the derived MP3 files have the album name truncated.

is there a way to simply replace the derived files with my own versions, such that the archive.org item page player will consider them as derived and not originals?

thanks for all your help.

the log at https://catalogd.archive.org/log/602495245 shows:

Module threw exception:
/petabox/sw/bin/timeout -s 9 14400 /usr/bin/mp3info2 -F TLEN='339.86' -F 'COMM(eng)[]=https://archive.org/details/in-giro--demonstrate' -F '_JUST_DO_YOUR_BESTIS_ONE_OF_OUR_BEST_=' -F 'TRCK=4/10' -F 'TCOM=Wayne DePrince Jr.' -F 'TPE2=in-giro' '/t/_in-giro--demonstrate/tmp.mp3' > /dev/null 2>&1 failed with exit code: 255

Module threw exception:
/petabox/sw/bin/timeout -s 9 14400 /usr/bin/mp3info2 -F TLEN='291.68' -F 'COMM(eng)[]=https://archive.org/details/in-giro--demonstrate' -F '_ALL_BETS_ARE_OFFANDIT_S_ALL_A_JOKE=' -F '_=' -F 'TRCK=6/10' -F 'TCOM=Wayne DePrince Jr.' -F 'TPE2=in-giro' '/t/_in-giro--demonstrate/tmp.mp3' > /dev/null 2>&1 failed with exit code: 255

i'm not sure what exit code:255 means for an audio item and the engineer that could answer the question is not available. text like "_ALL_BETS_ARE_OFFANDIT_S_ALL_A_JOKE=" seems suspicious. where is that coming from? i dont see it in your ID3 tags

yes, maybe the failing derivations is also part of the garbage metadata problem: those lines are lyrics in the original FLAC file found in the "Lyrics" tag of the Vorbis comments. they work properly in other players thus seem to be formatted correctly. but for some reason they are being pulled out line by line and added as keys with empty values in the derived Ogg Vorbis files, though they are not showing up in the derived MP3 files. not sure why those particular lines are being pulled out for those 2 tracks, since the rest of the other derived MP3 files have no lyrics? what is providing that info to the mp3info2 command?

thanks again.
